Mentoring Goals of the WAM Program

  • Encourage more young women to continue their interest in mathematics and science by taking more math and science courses.
  • Increase mentees' confidence levels and help them develop a positive self-image as they study mathematics and science.
  • Introduce young women to possible careers for themselves in mathematics, computing, and the sciences.
  • Provide coaching for young women in achieving their goals in mathematics and the sciences.

The Math Mentoring Program is funded by Dr. Steve Shafroth, North Carolina Central University, GlaxoSmithKline Inc., Amgen Foundation, and Texas Instruments, Inc, supported by Durham Public Schools, and administered in conjunction with the North Carolina Chapter of the Women And Mathematics Network.
