Majorie Lee Browne Day

Important Information *before* MLB Day

  • Durham Public School Permission Form

Please give EACH of your mentees a copy of the Marjorie Lee Browne Day permission form. She must have her parent(s)/guardian(s) sign it and TAKE IT TO HER SCHOOL no later than Wednesday, February 27. She should give it to someone in the office. Please stress to your mentees that if the permission form is not at the school on the morning of the event, they will not be allowed to leave. If you do not have a permission form to duplicate and give to the mentees, it is posted here.
  • Pickup

You should pick up your mentees at the school no later than 8:00 a.m., unless you have arranged with their parents to pick them up elsewhere. IF THEY DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL FIRST AND HAVE NOT TURNED IN THEIR PERMISSION FORM, THEY WILL BE MARKED WITH AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE FOR THE DAY
  • Pickup for DSA and SCS

For mentors at Durham School of the Arts (DSA) and at The School for Creative Studies (SCS) : DSA students begin their day at 9:15, while SCS students begin theirs at 9:00. We suggest that you make sure your mentees have turned in their permission forms and ask the parents if you may pick them up somewhere else. They might agree to meet you at a central location for you to get the girls. Registration begins at 8:30 and our program begins at 9:00. If you wait for them to get to school, they will miss the first activity.
  • First Session for mentors

During the first activity, the mentors will meet and discuss what activities they have done with their mentees thus far, as well as any successes, problems, or suggestions they have. You will select an activity to attend with the students for the second activity. We try to have the mentors evenly distributed during the second activty. At the end of the activity, mentors will gather at the front of the room and discuss their careers, what courses they had to take to get there, what they like about their careers, ... The mentees are encouraged to ask questions of the mentors. If they are hesitant about asking questions, you may give them a nudge by asking questions of one another
  • End of the Day

We will finish our program in time for you to get the girls back to school in time to catch the bus. If you prefer, you may arrange with their parents to deliver them home or to another place of their choosing, but THIS IS STRICTLY YOUR CHOICE.
  • On the way back from NetApp (talk scholarships)

The scholarship information has been posted on our website. After the MLB Day program has ended and you are returning your mentees to their schools, please discuss with them the importance of applying for a summer enrichment program and the probability of receiving a scholarship to attend. We really need the girls to apply this year.
